  • Each digit in a number represents a multiple of a power of 10
  • Digits are worth different amounts depending on their position within the number
  • The value of each digit decreases in size from left to right
  • Certain digits have special names (units digit, tens digit, hundreds digit, etc.)

  • Using a comma every three zeros can be useful in reading large numbers
