- A good sample accurately reflects the characteristics of a population
- A sample is a group taken from a population that is easier to survey
- Biased samples occur when certain characteristics are more likely to be selected
- Biased samples can lead to incorrect conclusions about the population
- Randomly choosing people or items from the population greatly reduces bias in a sample
- Larger samples more accurately represent the population
- Larger samples reduce bias by including low represented characteristics in the correct proportion
- Larger samples are more difficult and expensive to survey
- Survey size is usually a compromise between quality and cost
