  • Like terms have the same variables and indices
  • Like terms can be collected by adding or subtracting the coefficients
  • Addition of terms can often be written as a simple multiplication
  • The coefficient is the number in front of the variable
  • To simplify an expression, identify like terms and perform the necessary operations
  • The simplest form of an expression is when there are no more like terms to collect
  • The order of operations for addition and subtraction is from left to right
  • Variables written next to each other should be in alphabetical order
  • The fully simplified form of an expression is when there are no more like terms to collect
