  • It is important to write the substituted number in brackets to avoid errors when it involves multiplication
  • Substitution is used in various topics of math
  • Step 1: Substitute the given value into the expression
  • Step 2: Evaluate any squared numbers
  • Step 3: Perform the necessary calculations to find the answer
  • Example 1: Find the value of 5x^2 - 5 when x = -3
  • Example 2: Find the value of (x + y)^2 / (x - y) when x = 3 and y = 1
