Long Subtraction
- Long subtraction is used to subtract numbers with many digits
- Place value is important in long subtraction
- Step 1: Identify the value of each digit
- Step 2: Write out the calculation in column format
- Step 3: Subtract in the units column
- Step 4: Subtract in the tens column
- Step 5: Subtract in the hundreds column
- Borrowing may be necessary when subtracting larger numbers
- Cross out and replace digits when borrowing
- Step 7: Subtract in the hundreds column to get the answer
