Geometry and Measures Vectors

Vector Proofs

9:51 Vector Problem Solving
Spec G25
  • In vector proofs, we use vectors to prove things in geometrical diagrams
  • Two things that can be proven from a geometrical diagram are that vectors are parallel and that points are collinear
  • To prove that two lines are parallel, we need to show that one vector is a multiple of the other
  • To prove that points are collinear, we need to show that pairs of points are joined together by parallel vectors
  • A vector proof example question is provided, demonstrating the steps to take in a vector proof
  • The steps include determining what needs to be shown, working out and labeling unknown lengths on the diagram, finding the vectors in terms of known vectors, showing that the vectors are parallel, showing that the vectors share a common point, and concluding the proof with a clear statement
  • It is important to practice and understand the techniques used in vector proofs, as they can be complex and require careful analysis of the diagram.
