Formulations
- Many products are complex mixtures with each chemical having a specific purpose.
- Example: Making a salad involves combining ingredients like lettuce, tomato, and carrots.
- A mixture is formed by combining individual ingredients.
- A formulation is a mixture designed as a useful product.
- Example: A salad can be considered a formulation because it combines ingredients to achieve desired flavors.
- Formulations are made by mixing components in carefully measured quantities to ensure required properties.
- Example: Paint is a formulation made up of a solvent, colored pigments, and a binder.
- Paint needs to stick to surfaces, be spreadable, and have distinct colors.
- For exams, know that paint is a formulation but not the specific components.
- Other examples of formulations: fuels, cleaning agents, medicines, alloys, fertilizers, and foods.
- Fuels like petrol power vehicles.
- Cleaning products like bleach remove stains and kill harmful bacteria.
- Medicines like flu tablets treat flu symptoms.
- Know the examples of formulations for exams.
