Absorbing and emitting infrared radiation

Black body radiation

  • A perfect black body is an object that will not reflect or transmit any radiation directed onto it, only absorb it. Black bodies are also perfect emitters of radiation as good absorbers are good emitters.
  • Perfect black bodies only exist in theory, but there are objects that absorb almost all radiation directed at them.
