Resolving forces (HT ONLY)

  • Resolving a force is the process of splitting a force into two perpendicular components. The resultant of these two components will be the original force.
    • Draw the original force as a vector arrow in the correct direction and to a suitable scale.
    • Draw a horizontal line from the start of the vector to a point that lines up vertically with its end.
    • Draw a vertical line from this point to the end of the vector.
    • Measure the lengths of the horizontal and vertical lines to determine the size of these components.
