The Genome
- The genome of an organism encompasses all its genetic material.
- Each animal and plant species possesses a unique genome.
- The human genome consists of 23 chromosome pairs.
- Some cells, such as red blood cells (lacking a nucleus) and sex cells (containing half the genome), do not house the complete genome.
- Every body cell typically contains one full set of DNA.
