- They compete for materials from their surroundings.
- Essential resources for plants include light, space, water, and mineral ions from the soil.
- Plants in the same environment compete for these resources.
- In exams, students should be able to identify the factors for which plants are competing in a specific habitat.
- An example of plant competition is observed in woodland habitats where trees outcompete grass by blocking light and consuming more water and nutrients with their extensive root systems.
