Cellular Respiration & Energy
- Cellular respiration is a continuously occurring exothermic reaction in all living cells, including animal and plant cells.
- Exothermic reactions transfer heat energy outwards.
- The purpose of respiration is to transfer energy needed by organisms for various living processes.
- Energy from respiration is used by organisms to move, perform chemical reactions, build large molecules, and maintain body temperature.
- Specifically, respiration helps in building larger molecules like proteins and allows organisms to move and keep warm.
- For exams, it's important to be able to define respiration and list the ways organisms use the energy transferred by respiration.
