Uses of Nanoparticles
- Nanoparticles have different properties compared to their bulk counterparts.
- Example: Silver nanoparticles differ from bulk silver (e.g., silver bars).
- Silver nanoparticles are used in anti-odor socks for their antibacterial properties.
- Nanoparticles can be used in medicine for drug delivery (e.g., hollow carbon atoms called rines).
- Nanoparticles are useful in electronics, particularly in computer chips for smaller components and reduced device sizes.
- Nanoparticles are used in cosmetics, sun creams, and deodorants (e.g., titanium dioxide nanoparticles block UV light and provide better skin coverage without a white cast).
- Silver nanoparticles have antibacterial properties, making them suitable for deodorant sprays and moisturizing creams.
- Nanoparticles can be used as catalysts (e.g., platinum nanoparticles in fuel cells are cheaper and effective compared to bulk platinum).
- Ongoing research aims to find new applications for nanoparticles in electronics, medicine, catalysts, cosmetics, and other potential areas.
