Alkene Names & Formulae
- Kines are hydrocarbons with a double carbon-carbon bond.
- Alkanes are hydrocarbons with only single bonds between carbons.
- Alkenes have at least one pair of carbons with a double bond.
- Alkanes end in "A" and have only single bonds.
- Alkenes end in "E" and have a double bond.
- Specific hydrocarbons have suffixes indicating their type.
- Ethane (alkane) has two carbons and single bonds.
- Ethene (alkene) has two carbons and a double bond, affecting structure and hydrogen count.
- The carbon-carbon double bond in alkenes is a functional group responsible for reactions.
- Functional groups have unique characteristics and similar reactions.
- Alkenes form a homologous series with the same general formula and functional group.
- The first four alkenes are ethene, propene, butene, and pentene.
- Alkenes have a general formula of CNH2N, where N is the number of carbon atoms.
- The molecular formula of alkenes shows hydrogen atoms double the carbon atoms.
- Structural formulas of alkenes include a double carbon-carbon bond.
- Alkenes can have multiple structural forms with the same molecular formula.
- Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons with maximum hydrogen atoms.
- Alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons with fewer hydrogen atoms due to the double bond.
- Alkenes are unsaturated compared to corresponding saturated alkanes.
