Uses of Auxins
- Auxins have multiple applications in gardening and agriculture.
- They are used as rooting powders, for promoting growth in tissue cultures, and as weed killers.
- Rooting powders help plant cuttings develop roots quickly and grow into new plants.
- In tissue culture, auxins stimulate cell division and elongation, aiding in the growth of new plants from small sections of a parent plant.
- As weed killers, auxins act selectively, killing weeds without harming desirable crops by causing the weeds to grow excessively fast, leading to their death.
- Weed killers can reduce biodiversity by eliminating plants that serve as food sources for other species, thus they should be used with caution.
