  • Internal conditions that need regulation in the human body include glucose levels, water levels, and body temperature.
  • These conditions must stay within narrow limits, such as a few degrees Celsius for body temperature.
  • Maintaining stable conditions is crucial because cells can only survive within specific physical and chemical limits; for example, enzymes denature if the body temperature is too high.
  • Homeostasis is primarily maintained by the nervous system and the endocrine system.
  • These systems monitor and adjust the composition of blood and tissues, such as the pancreas monitoring blood glucose levels and signaling the liver to adjust glucose levels accordingly.
