Character Analysis

Ariel

Ariel too functions as a reflection of Prospero’s uses and abuses of power. His magical powers enable him to serve as Prospero’s mouthpiece – it is through him that Prospero’s revenge and manipulation occurs. But to keep Ariel under his command to fulfil these goals, Prospero’s legitimisation of power and ownership of the island comes into play, with Prospero rehashing the story of how he released Ariel all that time ago.
