Character Analysis

Children

While Mae and Gooper’s five children have little influence over the trajectory of the plot, their brief appearances are highly deliberate on Williams’ behalf. In fact, the very first line of dialogue in the text is about how Maggie was hit by one of them with a “hot buttered biscuit,” immediately presenting the idea that the children have no concept of the societal rules and conventions that drive so much of the play’s conflict.
