Background Information

A Midsummer Night’s Dream was written in 1595/1596 and published in 1600 – a time which was characterised by tumultuous and radical change, artistic genius, and a renewed focus on the humanities. Shakespeare himself lived between 1564 and 1616 and was consequently submerged in the zeitgeist of the Renaissance (which lasted approximately between 1450 and 1650).
