Imperfect tense

The imperfect tense is easy to remember because most French verbs already use the regular imperfect stem formed from the nous form of the present tense, minus -ons, and then add the imperfect endings (-ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient). The only exception to this rule is être:
