Grammar III: Adjectives and adverbs

Position of adverbs

  • Adverbs and adverbial phrases give more information about:
    • When something happens (time)
    • How it happens (manner)
    • Where it happens (place)
  • Adverbs of time are usually at the beginning or end of the sentence. For example:
    • Hoy vamos al parque. (Today we’re going to the park.)
    • Vamos al parque mañana. (We’re going to the park tomorrow.)
  • Adverbs of manner are usually placed after the verb. For example:
    • Habla rápidamente. (He/She speaks quickly.)
    • Trabajan bien juntos. (They work well together.)
  • Adverbs of place often come after the verb. For example:
    • Está aquí. (He/She is here.)
    • Caminamos al parque. (We walked to the park.)
