Distance–time graphs

  • A distance-time graph shows how the distance travelled by an object changes with time.
  • The speed of the object can be found by calculating the gradient of the graph.
    • A steeper gradient means a greater speed.
    • If the graph is horizontal, then the object is not moving.
  • The distance-time graph for an accelerating object will be curved. The speed at a point in time can be found by measuring the gradient of the tangent to the graph at that point
