Germany during WWII (1939–1945)

The defeat of the Nazis

  • By early 1945, the Soviets had pushed the Germans out of the USSR and continued to liberate Eastern Europe, attacking Berlin on 16 April 1945. Berlin was surrounded by 24 April; the only people left to defend it were the Hitler Youth and the Volkssturm.
  • Hitler committed suicide on 30 April, followed by Goebbels.
  • Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945.
