Deforestation of tropical rainforests

Deforestation is the removal of forests, and its rates have changed over time. Globally, around 10 million hectares of forest are lost each year, but the rate has slowed since the 1990s. However, tropical regions, like the Amazon and Congo Basin, still face elevated levels of deforestation.
