Global distribution of tectonic hazards

Tectonic hazards such as earthquakes and volcanoes mainly occur along plate margins where the different tectonic plates meet.
Both destructive (oceanic plate subducting beneath a continental plate) and constructive (plates moving apart) boundaries can produce earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
The Pacific Ring of Fire is a major zone of tectonic activity, with frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions surrounding the Pacific Ocean.
Earthquakes can also occur away from plate boundaries (intraplate earthquakes), but these are less common and usually less intense.
Tectonic activity is unevenly distributed across the globe, with some regions (e.g. parts of Asia, the Americas, and Oceania) experiencing far more hazards than others due to their position along active plate boundaries.
