Stages in the recruitment process

  1. Identify a vacancy: triggered by expansion, staff leaving, or new roles being created.
  2. Write the job description and person specification: ensures the recruitment is focused and transparent.
  3. Advertise the job: internally (e.g.staff intranet) or externally (e.g.job boards, social media, recruitment agencies).
  4. Receive applications: candidates apply using a CV or online form.
  5. Shortlist candidates: applications are reviewed and scored against the person specification.
  6. Interview candidates: can include multiple rounds, tests, or assessments depending on the role.
  7. Make a job offer and issue a contract: includes agreeing on salary, start date, and terms and conditions.
