The water cycle

The water cycle is important so that living organisms can continually be supplied with water, which is the major component of all cells and is thus necessary for life.
The water cycle provides fresh water for plants and animals on land before draining into the seas.
Water is continuously evaporated and precipitated (as rain, snow, hail or sleet).
Runoff is the movement of water across the surface.
Infiltration is the movement of water into the ground to become groundwater.
Subsurface flow is the movement of groundwater to the ocean.
