Xylem and phloem

Xylem and phloem are found together in the vascular bundle.
Xylem tissue transports water and mineral ions up from the roots to the leaves via the stem. It is made of hollow tubes without end walls, strengthened by lignin.
Phloem tissue transports dissolved sucrose from the leaves (made from glucose from photosynthesis) to the rest of the plant for use or storage. This is called translocation.
Cell sap in phloem tissue can move from one cell to the next through pores in the end walls.
