Tips for short-answer questions

  • You need to address all bullet points given in the question (usually 4), so aim for around 20–25 words for each one. This avoids writing under or over the recommended word count.
  • Use a range of past, present, and future tenses. Some of the bullet points may already address any of the tenses, make sure to include the other remaining tenses.
    • For example the question may ask you to menciona (mention):
      • qué hiciste recientemente para mantenerte en forma
      • si prefieres pasar tiempo con muchos amigos o con un amigo especial
      • tu opinión sobre el Internet
      • qué vas a hacer en el futuro para ayudar a otras personas.
    • The first bullet point addresses the past tense, the last one addresses the future tense. Therefore you can write something in the present tense whilst addressing the second or third bullet points.
  • You can learn fixed structures that you can adapt quickly to form the tenses (e.g El año pasado fui a..., En el futuro me gustaria…).
